For me, the song “This Land is Your Land, This Land is My
Land” just about sums up the whole conversation about celebrating the Fourth of
July. In the 167 years since Frederick
Douglass dismissed the day as not applicable for those enslaved, America has
made progress but still needs to do some makeup work on race relations.
Nevertheless, on paper and where it matters most, in my spirit, this country belongs
to me, too.
